Using condoms in winemaking is actually a thing in Cuba
One winemaker likes to make sure his product is in *safe* hands.
One winemaker in Cuba has incorporated a rather unusual item into the fermentation process for his homemade wine – condoms.
And get this: he also uses them for “protecting” (ha) the fruit from the harsh economic environment.
Not a joke, not a late April Fool’s. This really happens.
Orestes Estevez makes a little hole in the top of the condom and eventually it begins to rise, “just like a guy” he says.
When it finally deflates, he knows the fermentation is done.
Simple, yet seemingly effective.
