Turkeys saved from farm roasting

Around 250 turkeys were moved from a farm shed after a fire spread

A shedful of turkeys has narrowly avoided an early roasting after a blaze at a farm.

Around 250 of the birds were moved from the shed after fire spread from the workshop next door on the farm at Colemore, north of Petersfield, in Hampshire.

The large timber workshop was completely destroyed by the fire, but the turkey shed suffered only slight damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesman Brian Rudman said: "Our animal rescue specialist and firefighters helped assist the farm hands in herding the turkeys to a safe building and all the birds survived."
