Trump gave his paycheque to the US Park Service and a meme was born

By Taylor Heyman

So much sass in one photo.

Donald Trump promised to donate his salary during the election campaign and this week he did just that.

Trump handed over his first three-months-worth of pay, totalling $78,333, to the US Parks Service. This attracted attention because his latest budget proposal announced it would cut the Interior Department’s budget by £1.5bn, or which the Park Service is a part.

The cheque was received by Harpers Ferry National Historic Park Superintendent Tyrone Brandyburg, who said the cash would go towards the upkeep of national battlefields.

However, as the larger-than-normal cheque was handed over, Brandyburg looked less than impressed. This, accompanied by the seeming hypocrisy of handing over so little compared to the huge budget cut, was a recipe for meme gold.

They may not have been happy with Trump’s gesture, but some were pretty impressed with Brandyburg’s looks.

Someone has also set up a crowdfunding initiative to raise more than Trump donated.

It’s all hilarious, but to be clear, Brandyburg did smile during the photocall. Well, kinda.
