Chancellor George Osborne announced he was reversing the previous government's plan to increase the duty on cider by 10% above inflation.

The Wurzels, who scored novelty singles in 1976 with I Am A Cider Drinker and Combine Harvester, complained previously that they were being "unfairly penalised".

But the West Country hitmakers thanked Mr Osborne for "listening to our advice".

"Thanks go to George Osborne for listening to our advice," said the band's Tommy Banner and Pete Budd in a statement.

"With festival season upon us, now is the perfect time to enjoy a glass of cider with friends, without burning a hole in our pocket."
