Firms are sending their staff on letter-writing courses to help them communicate better with their clients, it has been revealed.

Karren Brady, vice chairman of West Ham football club, and the Government's Small Business Ambassador, said the move showed that young people were being "failed".

She told the British Chambers of Commerce annual conference that the transition from education to employment should be "smoother".

She said: "We must invest in our future workforce and help young people with their skills."

Ms Brady said she had recently visited a business which had sent employees on a letter writing course to boost their communication skills.
