A selection of political puppets made for satirical television show Spitting Image raised more than £7,000 when they were sold separately.

The Latex models included three former Conservative prime ministers, Edward Heath, Margaret Thatcher and John Major.

The Mrs Thatcher puppet, which came complete with a Denis Thatcher figure, sold for £2,160.

Puppets of her former cabinet ministers Michael Heseltine and Norman Tebbit sold for £540 and £720 respectively.

A puppet of former education secretary Kenneth Baker, who was famously depicted on the ITV show as a slug, failed to sell.

A puppet of Northern Irish politician Ian Paisley fetched £1,080 at the auction at Bonhams in New Bond Street, London.

A guitar which belonged to rock legend Jimi Hendrix, valued between £80,000 and £120,000, failed to sell, as did John Lennon's handwritten lyrics for the Beatles song I'm Only Sleeping.
