Police are hunting for a man who robbed a shop with a plastic bag over his head.

The robber donned the white Londis bag and walked behind the counter of the Day One store where he pulled a knife and threatened staff before snatching money from the till, Hertfordshire Police said.

The shop's CCTV images shows the man with his hands shoved in his pockets looking through a large slit in the bag during the robbery at the store in Bennetts Gate, Hemel Hempstead, at 8.40am last Friday.

No one was hurt in the raid.

Police branded the robbery "unusual" and appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

Detective Constable Paula Mowbray, from Hemel Hempstead police station, said: "It is quite unusual for a robbery to be committed where the suspect uses a carrier bag as a means to attempt to conceal their identity.

"We would like to speak with the man pictured as he may be able to assist our inquiries. I would also like to hear from anyone who may recognise him."

People have taken to the Hertfordshire Police Facebook page to mock the man's disguise.

Mark Dorsett wrote "Times are desperate", while Jayden Black wrote: "Lmao!!!! Thinking outside the box."

Chris Armstrong posted "Blag for life", while Bhupinder Mann branded the man "Mr Sainsbury !!".

Anyone who recognises the man or has information about the robbery is urged to contact police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference number D1/14/2764, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
