A pair of rare photograph albums left in a charity shop could fetch £5,000 when they are sold at auction.

The 19th century albums, containing photographs of Argentina, were discovered by Caroline Ingram who volunteers at the Oxfam shop in Jesmond, Newcastle.

She said: "I have been volunteering at Oxfam for six years now and have never had a find to compare to this.

"As I am a keen photographer, I selected these albums to research from a selection of other books and began investigating."

The pictures, taken by French photographer Esteban Gonnet, will be sold by London auction house Christie's next Wednesday.

They have been given an estimated price between £3,000 and £5,000 with all proceeds going to Oxfam.
