Senior citizens are growing old dangerously - if their holiday activities are anything to go by.

As many as 13% of over-50s are taking part in risky adventures overseas, including rock climbing and bungee jumping, a survey by Gnu Insurance found.

Waterskiing and parasailing are the most popular activities for "grey" holidaymakers, followed by scuba diving, windsurfing and surfing.

A total of 8% go in for rock climbing, with 6% keen on bungee jumping and 5% going caving.

As many as 13% of over50s would consider going away without any travel insurance, with nearly a third of these saying they would be happy to take the risk.

Gnu Insurance general manager Paul Thilo said: "Our research shows that an increasing amount of older travellers are throwing caution to the wind while on holiday and taking part in activities that they'd never even think of at home.

"Shockingly, a large number of over-50s are even choosing not to take out insurance as they are happy to take the risks involved."
