An MP has pledged to don a false handlebar moustache during Prime Minister's Questions to raise funds for Movember.

Michael Fabricant, Tory MP for Lichfield, has so far attracted donations of £263 for Prostate Cancer UK by vowing to wear the "very silly" stick-on moustache in the House of Commons next Wednesday.

Mr Fabricant, who is still awaiting delivery of the fake £2 bristles from an online retailer, said: "I briefly did consider growing a real moustache for Movember, but I guessed it might have turned out a blond peach-like fuzz.

"So instead, the full monty, albeit a fake full monty, was my next choice."

Expressing confidence that Parliamentary officials or rules will not scupper his effort to back Movember, the MP said he had no intention of attempting to question David Cameron while wearing the comedy item.

The MP said: "I hope the Speaker will realise that I am raising money for charity.

"I will be sitting there quietly - raising an important issue like HS2 might be difficult with a false handlebar moustache.

"But there is a serious point to all this. Prostate cancer is a killer and I do hope that readers will contribute generously to Prostate Cancer UK."
