Man rang 999 to report strange cat
A man dialled 999 when a cat wandered into his home, police have revealed.
The worried householder phoned police to say that the large moggy had walked through his back door into his kitchen.
The caller, from Gloucester, was politely advised to pick up the cat and remove it from the house. He was also warned the situation was not an emergency.
The bizarre call was one of 4,000 inappropriate emergency calls received by Gloucestershire police this year.
Among the thousands of inappropriate calls were another cat-owner who called 999 because his pet had not come back in.
He was advised to go to bed and put some food out for the animal.
In one 999 call the operator heard only the sound of a row between a man and woman on the line.
As a precaution officers went to the property to be told that neither knew who had called 999 and the only disagreement was over the husband not having done the washing up.
A teenager also called police saying that his parents had re-decorated his room and he did not like it.
