Man flees police and stops for beer

A man who had just fled police stopped at a bar for a beer and was recaptured

A man arrested for assault escaped from a police station holding cell - then stopped off for a beer.

The Washington County public defender's office in western Pennsylvania declined to comment on the charges filed against 40-year-old Timothy Bonner.

Police say they were processing Bonner, of Smith Township, and had removed his handcuffs and put him in the cell, when he allegedly knocked the cell door off its hinges and fled.

After stopping at a house to borrow shoes, police say Bonner went to Richy's Bar, where a customer told WPXI-TV the suspect admitted breaking out of jail and asked for a beer.

The customer said he bought a beer for Bonner, but he did not get to enjoy it before police recaptured him.
