Man catches record 14ft alligator
A man has snared what authorities believe to be Florida's longest alligator on record.
Wildlife officials say the 14ft creature caught by Robert Ammerman weighed 654lbs and was caught on November 1, the last day of Florida's alligator harvest, in Lake Washington.
Mr Ammerman said the alligator thrashed and pulled his boat for about 45 minutes after being harpooned and took two hours to tow to dock.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says the previous record was a slightly shorter alligator, which was trapped in 1997. The state's heaviest alligator on record, which weighed 1,043 pounds, was caught in 1989.
Mr Ammerman works as a nurse, but he traps alligators in his spare time.
