Miniature Lego characters including the Queen and Duchess of Cambridge were unveiled with specially-designed hats at the Windsor attraction today.

Describing it as her most unusual commission yet, Royal hat-maker Rachel Trevor-Morgan said the process of creating the tiny headpieces was an intricate one.

"What's not to love about it really?" she said. "I mean it's just been such fun. They are all made in exactly the same way that we might be making our hats in the work room.

"Each edge is still stitched as we would do in any of our hats so the detailing is there and they are quite intricate."

Using her daughter's perfume bottle as a model, the award-winning milliner was able to shape a bright yellow straw hat for the Queen, while she created a Royal Blue straw slice hat with two miniature quill feathers for the Duchess of Cambridge.

The Duchess' mother Carole Middleton, the Duchess of Cornwall, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice and Zara Tindall also feature in the line-up, sporting colourful headwear measuring just a few centimetres each.

Ms Morgan said she had been inspired by the fashion senses of all seven women, but also tried to add her "own imprint on the different styles".

The 10cm (4in) high models and their new hats will be on show outside the miniature Buckingham Palace at the Legoland resort's Miniland until Royal Ascot finishes on June 21.
