Jack Wilshere's game against Tottenham was about as bad as it gets
An injury, a loss, and a role to play in Tottenham’s goals – things haven’t gone well for Jack Wilshere.
It could have been so perfect for Jack Wilshere – the script was written.
The Arsenal man started against Tottenham for Bournemouth, where he’s on loan, with the chance to put a serious dent in any title hopes Spurs might still have.
But, instead, the 25-year-old had a role to play in two of Tottenham’s four goals, and left the pitch injured with 60 minutes not yet on the clock.
It was a dominant display from Spurs, who looked like they could score on every attack – but the fans seem to especially enjoy witnessing Wilshere not at his best.
His name rang around White Hart Lane from the off, and that only increased when Wilshere losing possession led to Tottenham’s second goal.
It’s not the first altercation between Wilshere and Spurs fans – the Gunner received an FA charge for leading a foul-mouthed anti-Spurs chant during Arsenal’s 2015 FA Cup winner parade, and no doubt expected to be centre of attention at White Hart Lane.
It wasn’t just from the terraces though, even Tottenham’s Twitter account got involved.
To the annoyance of many Arsenal fans.
And, when Wilshere had to limp off injured after a Harry Kane challenge connected with his ankle, Spurs fans reacted with cheers and chants of “it’s happened again”.
It’s fair to say not everyone agreed that was the correct response.
But no doubt Wilshere will be relishing the next chance he has to play against Spurs.
