Hundreds of horse racing fans are to experience for themselves the chance to run the final furlong of a racecourse later this month, the organisers have announced.
Kempton Park Racecourse is hosting the first ever human final furlong race on Wednesday, April 28.
The racecourse is offering a £1,000 prize and "The People's Cup" for the fastest competitor.
The contenders will be released from the starting gates as the fourth race of the evening fixture at the Sunbury-on-Thames course.
Managing director Amy Starkey said: "As well as offering an evening of free horse racing, we want to give racegoers a unique experience.
"The crowd will get to experience the thrill of racing the final furlong during an official race meeting so this is definitely a one-off chance for visitors to Kempton Park."
The fixture, for which admission is free, is part of a week of free horse racing at nine racecourses across the country organised by the Racing for Change organisation in a bid to broaden the appeal of the sport.
