Holiday Britons like to sleep nude
Britons may be a bit buttoned up about nightwear at home but are more likely than other Europeans to sleep in the nude while on holiday, a poll has suggested.
As many as 25% of Britons like to sleep naked while on vacation, a Europe-wide survey by Hotels.com found.
Next keenest nation to sleep in the buff is Sweden, with 22% choosing the no-nightclothes option.
Denmark (21%), France (20%) and Finland (18%) are the other countries whose citizens are most likely to sleep in the nude while on holiday.
However, just 9% of Italians fancy dispensing with night attire, the survey of 1,007 adults across 19 countries found.
Pyjamas are the most popular form of nightwear with 68% of Germans, 63% of Italians and 60% of French donning PJs while away, but the poll found that 49% of Norwegians, 48% of Swedes and 47% of Danes choose to wear underpants in bed.
Hotels.com communications director Alison Couper said: "Most European tourists have a national stereotype on holiday, whether that be Germans being first to the sunbeds or Italians being the holiday womanisers.
"However, it's fair to say that Brits abroad tend to get criticised for either burning in the sun or not being as liberal as our European counterparts. So, it's exciting to learn from our research about the habits of we Brits abroad."
