Teams of three drivers - some imaginatively named the Grass Bandits, Blades of Glory and Northerners Kick grAss - competed throughout the night from 8pm on Saturday, with speeds reaching 50mph as they blasted their mowers round the circuit at Five Oaks, near Billingshurst in West Sussex.

The event was organised by the British Lawn Mower Racing Association, which says its races are the "cheapest and most entertaining ways to experience the thrills and adrenaline rush of grassroots motor sport".
