A man who survived the crash-landing of an Emirates plane is now feeling twice as lucky after winning one million US dollars (£769,000) in an airport duty-free sweepstake.

Mohamed Basheer, a 62-year-old from India who works at a car dealership's body shop in Dubai, is taking it all in his stride, however.

He said that he will continue working at the body shop as a fleet operations coordinator until he feels ready to retire.

Mr Basheer found out he won the sweepstake on Tuesday. Days earlier, on August 3, he was among the 300 people who fled a burning Emirates airline Boeing 777 that crash-landed at Dubai International Airport.

Mr Basheer says he will use the money to support his family and start a charity in his hometown of Pallickal in India's Kerala state.
