The YouVersion Bible allows users to access the Good Book in its entirety - for instant, searchable scripture on the go.

Mobile app store GetJar confirmed the free app has been one of its most popular downloads in the last month.

Get Jar said: "Its enormous number of downloads shows that religion and technology do go 'hand in mobile', with spirituality available on the move and not just in a church or temple."

The online app store has seen similar success with its other religious apps. For example, Islamic app Azan is one of the UK's most popular apps with over three million downloads.

Azan provides automatic calls to prayer throughout the day, ensuring Muslims never lose track of time and miss their prayers.
