'Cool as hell' parasite named after Barack Obama
It is no Nobel Peace Prize, but US president Barack Obama is the recipient of a new honour after scientists named a parasite after him.
Baracktrema obamai, a tiny parasitic flatworm that lives in turtles' blood, has been officially named after Mr Obama in a new study.
Thomas Platt, a retired biology professor at Saint Mary's College in Indiana who chose the name, said it is an honour, not an insult.
A distant relative of the president, Mr Platt said people sometimes pay thousands of dollars for the privilege of having a species named after them.
Mr Platt said the creature reminds him of the president because: "It's long. It's thin. And it's cool as hell."
