Kay jetted in to Ireland to join the rock band on stage in the Olympia Theatre for their first chart topper, I Useta Lover.

He also helped the band launch their new album, The Further Adventures Of The Saw Doctors, before hosting an intimate bash with the comic's relatives, who travelled from all corners of Ireland.

"What an absolute honour and a joy to be asked to launch the fantastic new album by The Saw Doctors," said Kay, who plays five nights in Dublin's O2 next year.

"My family and I have been massive fans for years."

A self-proclaimed fan of the group for 20 years, Kay previously duetted with energetic frontman Davy Carton in Manchester and his native Bolton.

Guitarist Leo Morn said: "We know Peter is very proud of his Irish roots and his Irish relatives, but for a major star to take time out and to speak so highly of our work is a huge compliment."

The Galway band, who have been going since 1986, release the new album on Monday ahead of a 17-date UK tour.
