The Tory Chief Whip has joked there is no "special black book" full of the misdeeds of Conservative MPs - it is in fact blue.
The much-fabled tome is used to record all of the times the Government's MPs fail to toe the party line.
But Gavin Williamson, Theresa May's top enforcer in the House of Commons, told the Conservative conference in Birmingham that the book does not actually exist - at least not in the form people expect.
He said: "I know there is a fair amount of mystery surrounding the role of the Whips' Office.
"I've heard that we use special tactics to get our way, to make people do as we wish.
"I've even heard that we have a special black book where we record all of the misdeeds and the mistakes.
"It's hard to imagine that any of our colleagues would ever have a small or minor indiscretion. But conference, I want to set the record straight.
"As Chief Whip I can categorically tell you that in the Whip s' Office we do not have a black book.
