A suspected burglar had to be rescued by firefighters after he became stuck on a rooftop as he tried to evade police.

Officers were called to reports of two men acting suspiciously on the roof of a car park in Rock Place, Brighton, East Sussex, at 3.15am on Friday.

The men tried to escape across the rooftops but one became stuck and had to be rescued by firefighters from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

The second suspect ran off but was located within an hour after he was spotted in a garden in Lower Rock Gardens, Sussex Police said.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and criminal damage. A boy of 17 was held on suspicion of burglary.

Both suspects, who are from Brighton, were in custody in the city on Friday morning, a police spokesman said.
