They must have lost count of how many times they have heard it, but Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean still chose to take Ravel's Bolero as one of their Desert Island Discs.

The pair, who famously won Olympic gold in Sarajevo 30 years ago this week for their routine set to the music, picked it as one of their eight tracks on the long-running Radio 4 show.

They made history in 1984 when their gold medal success saw them earn full marks from all nine judges - a feat never achieved before or since.

Dean told host Kirsty Young the pair went hunting for music to perform to at the "treasure trove" of the BBC Radio record library in their home town of Nottingham.

He said: "Some people thought we were employed there because we were there all the time."

The pair chose some of their desert island tracks together and some separately, with Dean taking Queen's Killer Queen and Torvill choosing Read All About It by Emeli Sande, which featured in the coverage of the London 2012 games.

The skater also described the welcome they got when they came home after the Sarajevo games when people lined the streets to cheer them on.

She said: "It started from my parent's sweet shop and there was a gathering outside, but we expected there to be people at the beginning and the end but all the way along it was so endearing that they turned out in their droves."

Castaways are traditionally allowed to take a luxury item to their desert island and Torvill asked for moisturiser, while Dean said he wanted to take a supply of coffee and digestive biscuits.
