All bets off for luckless thief
An Austrian man is in jail after stealing lottery tickets worth 70,000 euro (£61,000) - without ever winning the jackpot.
The national prosecutor's office in Leoben said the unidentified 51-year-old man has confessed to the heist. They said he pocketed instant tickets valued at about 70,000 euro over several years from a local shop.
Each ticket costs one euro (87p). The maximum payout is 100,000 euro (£87,000). The prosecutor's office said none of the stolen tickets resulted in a large win.
The theft was discovered after the shop owner noticed bookkeeping discrepancies between the number of tickets sold and the profits from their sale.
