Watch: US Police Officer refuses to shoot killing suspect charging towards him
An Ohio police officer is being praised after refusing the shoot a suspected killer even as the man ran towards him.
Officer Jesse Kidder was pursuing Michael Wilcox (27), who is facing double murder charges. A camera worn by Kidder shows Wilcox walking toward the patrol car.
Mr Wilcox can be heard saying "shoot me", to which the police officer, who has only been in the job around a year, replies "I'm not going to shoot you, man".
Mr Kidder, a former Marine, can be seen running backwards with his gun pointed towards the suspect. At one point, Kidder falls over, but eventually gets Mr Wilcox to lay flat on the ground.
The restraint shown in the video shows "great maturity" according to New Richmond Police Chief Randy Harvey.
"This video footage, it eliminated all doubt that this officer would have been justified if in fact it came to a shooting," he said.
Mr Wilcox was charged with the fatal shooting of his girlfriend Courtney Fowler (25).
The video comes at a time of heightened tension over the US police use of force.
