US military authorities are responding to reports of gunshots at the naval medical centre in San Diego.

An active shooter was reported in the building at around 4pm (Irish time) at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego.

The centre issued a warning to occupants in the centre, saying "All occupants are advised to run, hide or fight."

"All non-emergency response personnel are asked to stay away from the compound, located at 34800 Bob Wilson Drive, San Diego, CA 92134."
