Virginia Tech, the scene of the worst campus shooting in US history, is in lockdown after three students said they saw a gunman in the area.
In 2007, Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 people and wounded 25 others before committing suicide on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg.
He made two separarte attacks approximately two hours apart in the deadliest shooting incident by a single gunman in US history.
Today’s website alert tells students and staff to stay inside and secure doors, and that emergency personnel is responding.
Students also received texts and emails alerting them to the situation.
“Person with a gun reported near Dietrick. Stay inside. Secure doors. Emergency personnel responding. Call 911 for help,” the alert warned.
Earlier today, three children attending a camp at the university told authorities that they saw a six-foot man with light brown hair holding what may have been a weapon covered by a cloth.
