The Wire actor Wendell Pierce has been arrested for allegedly attacking a woman for supporting US Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders

Best known for playing tough cop Bunk Moreland in the hit show, Pierce was arrested in Atlanta where he is alleged to have grabbed a woman's hair and smacked her head for backing Sanders, according to reports on TMZ.

According to reports, Pierce had been outside the Loews Hotel speaking with the woman and her boyfriend at 3.30am on Saturday morning when the alleged assault happened.,

Atlanta police arrested Pierce on Saturday, charging him with battery for the alleged attack.

He was released from Fulton County jail the same day on a $1,000 bond, records showed.
