DOMINIQUE Strauss-Kahn, the former head of the International Monetary Fund, allegedly told his wife he had sex with three women in New York in the hours leading to his arrest on attempted rape charges, a French magazine has claimed.
The former frontrunner for France's presidency was reported to have made the confession to his wife, Anne Sinclair, in an attempt to convince her that he had not raped a maid in a Manhattan hotel in May.
He is alleged to have admitted he "had" the three unnamed females between Friday night and when he checked out of the Manhattan Sofitel after midday on the Saturday.
The sex binge was described as an apparent attempt to let off steam before next year's presidential elections. "So it wasn't just one for the road," a friend of Ms Sinclair was quoted as telling 'Le Point' magazine, "it was three."
One friend claimed Mr Strauss-Kahn had warned his wife on the eve of their marriage: "Don't marry me. I'm an incorrigible skirt chaser."
Any hopes he had of making a triumphant return to the French presidential race were dashed yesterday after the Socialists closed the window for candidacies for primaries.
Mr Strauss-Kahn's lawyers did not return a request for comment yesterday.
There were signs Mr Strauss-Kahn was attempting to put the furore behind him by venturing further from New York City after his house arrest, as he and his wife took in two concerts as part of the Tanglewood Music Festival.
The couple travelled to Lenox, Massachusetts, about 210km north-east of New York, and attended a recital by violinist Nikolaj Znaider and pianist Saleem Abboud Ashkar last Thursday. They returned on Friday for an orchestra concert conducted by Kurt Masur.
Mr Strauss-Kahn's next Manhattan court appearance is scheduled for August 1. His lawyers have asked prosecutors to dismiss all charges. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
