Straight-A student is jailed for missing class
A teenager has been jailed for 24 hours in Texas for truancy despite missing school so she could work two jobs to support her family.
Diane Tran (17), a straight-A student, breached the state's truancy law.
Diane said she combined her studies with a full-time job at a dry cleaners and a part- time job at a wedding venue.
She was using her income to support an older brother at university and a younger sister.
Judge Lanny Moriarty defended his ruling, saying he had warned Diane last month not to miss any more school, and ordered her to pay a $100 (€80) fine. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
