A GYM teacher in a high school in the US has become a viral sensation – after wearing the same jumper in the school’s yearbook for 40 years.
Dale Irby from Dallas has wore the same brown V-neck in every year’s yearbook since he started working at the school in 1973.
The Dallas Morning New’s published a collage of all the pictures together on their website, and it attracted 1.3m hits.
The 63-year-old said the tradition began by accident when he wore the outfit two years in a row without realising.
When he first got his picture taken for Prestonwood Elementary's yearbook he was told to dress more formally than his usual gym shorts and vest – so he grabbed the most appropriate thing he could find in his wardrope.
“I was so embarrassed when I got the school pictures back that second year and realized I had worn the very same thing as the first year,” he told the Dallas Morning News..
His wife Cathy dared him to wear the same outfit for a third year running and a tradition was born.
“After five pictures, it was like, why stop?” he joked.
Despite 40 years having passed, Irby claims the outfit still fits him, although he admits: “I have to suck in a little”.
