One dead after shooting at Texas university
One person has died and another has been injured after a shooting at a student housing complex at Texas Southern University.
University spokesman Kendrick Callis said the shooting was reported around 11.30am on Friday at University Courtyard Apartments on the edge of the Houston campus.
Mr Callis said the campus was placed on lockdown and classes were cancelled for the rest of the day.
Houston Police tweeted early on Friday afternoon that a possible suspect had been detained.
Police and emergency vehicles were at the scene.
The university has about 9,700 students.
The incident occurred just hours after another shooting near the same housing complex.
The university said in a statement posted on its website that the earlier shooting occurred early on Friday morning, and that the school was increasing the police presence on campus.
It is not clear if the shootings are linked.
