Kennedy Corpus probably won’t be too worried about missing a day at school, after US president Barack Obama wrote a note excusing her from class.
The ten-year-old was listening to the president speak at a town hall meeting, when her father asked Obama a question and mentioned his daughter’s truancy. John Corpus added that he hoped his daughter wouldn’t get into trouble for not being present on the last day of school.
“Do you need me to write a note?” Obama asked. As the crowd laughed at what most assumed to be little more than a joke, the president stepped down from the stage to fulfill his promise.
The hand-written message for the fourth-grader said: “To Kennedy's teacher: Please excuse Kennedy's absence….she's with me. Barack Obama.”
The Aldo Leopold elementary school student was surprised and delighted with her unique excuse for missing school.
“I thought he was joking until he started walking down,” Kennedy said to the bank of photographers and reporters that soon gathered to see her unique note. “It was like the best thing ever,” she said.
What is she going to do with the note? The star-struck student told reporters she would make a copy for her teacher, but she planned on framing the original copy alongside her ticket for the event.
