Republicans have attacked US President Barack Obama for considering the appointment of Anna Wintour as America's next ambassador to Britain.
Mr Obama is believed to have placed the editor-in-chief of ' Vogue', on a shortlist of candidates.
Conservative critics described the potential appointment of Ms Wintour, whose only political experience is raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for Mr Obama's re-election campaign, as "ludicrous" and "a non-starter". A nomination of the 63-year-old by Mr Obama would need to be approved by the US Senate. His party's slim majority in the upper chamber would not be sufficient to stop a concerted opposition by the Republicans. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
