Barack Obama is travelling across America this week on a "summer of recovery" tour to convince voters that he has successfully managed the economic crisis.
The US president will travel to the industrial heartlands in Michigan and New Jersey and visit GM and Chrysler car plants. The areas have benefited from millions of dollars of economic support.
On Thursday, he will appear on daytime chat show 'The View', the first such appearance by a sitting president. One of the show's hosts is actress Whoopi Goldberg.
Mr Obama's popularity has slumped and he is being attacked for failing to cut unemployment. Democrats are concerned his unpopularity will be reflected in autumn elections, which could hand Republicans a majority in the Senate. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
