Obama and family woo Brazil
US PRESIDENT Barack Obama and his family visited one of the world's most notorious slums during their visit to Brazil yesterday.
Residents crowded footpaths, rooftops and balconies to wave as Mr Obama's shining black limousine rolled through the narrow, proverty-stricken streets of Cidade de Deus, or City of God, made famous by an Oscar-nominated movie of the same name. At a community centre, the president shed his coat and tie, rolled up his sleeves and played football with a delighted boy, while Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia also kicked a ball around.
Mr Obama leaves Rio today for a visit to Chile and will wrap up his South American tour on Wednesday in El Salvador.
