Man takes his own life on the morning after his wedding
A GROOM threw himself into the Harlem River in New York on Sunday morning, having wed his long-term girlfriend the day before.
Fernando Brazier left the Radisson Hotel in New Rochelle at 9 am on Sunday and hailed a cab to his native Bronx where he jumped into the river from the roof of a building, according to police sources.
The previous day friends and family of the 28-year-old dad of two watched as he and high school sweetheart Trudian Hay (26) exchanged vows and held their wedding reception in the hotel. Their two daughters aged five and two-and-a -half were bridesmaids at the ceremony.
The groom left a suicide note at the reception desk for his bride, along with his wedding ring in the envelope.
“He said in the note that he couldn’t take it anymore, and to take care of the kids,” his sister Shawna Weeks told a New York newspaper.
According to family members, Brazier had reportedly been suffering from depression and was overwhelmed by pressure to marry his high school sweetheart Trudian Hay, 26.
Weeks said that her brother had cold feet about the wedding, but felt under tremendous pressure to go through with the ceremony.
"He would tell me that Trudy is a good person, but he didn't want to marry her; he was feeling like he was pressured," Weeks told reporters, .
His aunt Lee Brown told a newspaper she had spoken to her nephew just before the marriage ceremony and asked him if he wanted to go through with it.
Brazier reportedly told her: “It’s too late now.”
