Do not drink and drive and that includes motorised wheelchairs.
Ronny Scott Hicks (54) was arrested after road users complained about him blocking traffic on a bridge with his mobility scooter.
The 54-year-old from Palm Bay, Florida, was reportedly slurring his words when the police turned up.
Officers detained the wheelchair user after he refused to follow instructions and declined to give a breath test.
Police added they could smell alcohol on his breath too.
Following his arrested, Mr Hicks also refused treatment for an open wound.
He has two prior convictions for DUI, police said, and remains in custody.
