Judge's claim that 'body won't permit rape' prompts outrage

A US judge has prompted outrage after saying that a rape victim didn't put up a fight during her assault and that if someone doesn't want sex, the body "will not permit that to happen."
Judge Derek Johnson made the comments in the case of a man who threatened to mutilate the face and genitals of his ex-girlfriend with a heated screwdriver.
His comments echo those of outgoing US representative Todd Akin, who said female rape victims rarely get pregnant.
The States Commission on Judicial Performance attacked the Florida judge for imposing a six-year sentence on the rapist, 10 years less than the recommended sentence. He has since apologised for his comments. (© Independent News Service).
