'Jihad Jane', who was at the centre of a major garda investigation into international terrorism, pleaded guilty yesterday to plotting to kill a Swedish cartoonist.
Pennsylvanian divorcee Colleen LaRose (47), who had described herself in a YouTube video as 'Jihad Jane', admitted her guilt at a federal hearing in Philadelphia.
She acknowledged her role in a plot with others to kill cartoonist Lars Vilks, who had depicted the prophet Moh- ammed in a way that was offensive to Muslims.
LaRose, who has been in custody for more than a year, may be imprisoned for life when she is sentenced on March 3.
She arrived in Ireland for a two-week visit in September 2009 and while here stayed with a 49-year-old Algerian man and his American partner in Cork and Waterford.
Gardai kept track of her movements and monitored her contact with people. The following month she was arrested at Philadelphia international airport and taken in to custody.
