As part of the pack of "wolves" of Wall Street, Barry Gesser had it all. He had recently married a strikingly beautiful yoga teacher, after a 14-month courtship and a proposal with a $60,000 ring.

But after just 15 days the marriage was over when Stacey Alysson, Mr Gesser's 35-year-old bride, found her new husband in bed with a New York socialite.

Ms Alysson said she arrived home in Beverly Hills to find Dori Cooperman "there in bed with him, wearing my clothes".

Following a loud row, with Ms Cooperman denying that anything untoward was happening, the police were called.

Five days later, Miss Alysson went to court to obtain a temporary restraining order.

"Gesser told me to leave my wedding ring. He told me if I didn't, he would bury me six feet under," she said. "I took this threat seriously because he is a convicted felon with no regard for the law and deep connections to the Mafia."

A friend of Jordan Belfort, the trader who was portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in the Martin Scorsese film Wolf of Wall Street, Mr Gesser was one of the high rollers who dominated New York in the 1990s.

In 1999, as a 35-year-old hedge fund manager, he had purchased a 10-bedroom house in the town of Bedford, New York - where fellow residents include Richard Gere and Catherine Zeta-Jones. His demands that the house be completely refurbished in six weeks were documented by The New York Times, with the interior designers telling how they used an army of 25 painters and 24 window cleaners to complete the lightning-speed overhaul.

In May 2004 he was given a three-year suspended sentence for fraud, but soon bounced back - relocating to Beverly Hills, resuming his jet-set existence and dating a series of beautiful women - until he met Ms Alysson.

Ms Cooperman insisted that she and Mr Gesser were just friends. "We were just sitting and talking," she said, according to The New York Post. She said that she was staying with Mr Gesser and Miss Alysson as their guest.

"I may have put on Alysson's T-shirt by mistake," she said.

"They started arguing. I went to my room. The next thing I know the police are there."

Miss Cooperman has for several years documented her friendship with Mr Gesser on her blog in Haute Living magazine, where she describes herself as "a staple of New York high society".

"There is not a party, grand opening, or charity gala that she doesn't know about or hasn't been invited to," said her biography on her blog, Dori's World.

In 2011, she told how she had flown on Mr Gesser's private jet to Los Cabos in Mexico for New Year's Eve celebrations.

In October 2012 she wrote about her dinner with Jordan Belfort, Mr Gesser and the actor Jonah Hill - who was preparing for his role in Wolf of Wall Street.

A year later she blogged about spending time with Mr Gesser in Los Angeles, having breakfast at the Beverly Hills hotel.

Mr Gesser and Miss Alysson are due in court on February 24.
