Fury as naked, unarmed student killed by police
STUDENTS have expressed shock and outrage after a naked university freshman was shot dead by police.
Gil Collar (18), a student at the University of South Alabama, was killed by a campus police officer while on a night out on Saturday.
University officials say the student ignored repeated commands to stop. The university says Mr Collar was nude and acting erratically when he confronted the officer.
The officer has been put on paid leave, and an autopsy will determine if drugs or alcohol were involved. Campus officials say the confrontation was recorded by security cameras.
A friend of Mr Collar, Tyler Kendrick, insisted that the dead student was unarmed at the time and the officer shouldn't have drawn his weapon.
Another friend, Colgan Meanor, described the 18-year-old as an outgoing athlete who loved wrestling in high school.
She said she's shocked over his killing by the officer outside the university police department.
