BOSTON'S newly elected Irish Mayor has been pictured at his desk for his first day in his new role.
The US city elected Martin J Walsh (46), the son of Irish immigrants from Galway, as the city's 48th mayor.
He has pledged to work for improved rights for immigrants like his parents, as well as pushing the cause of same-sex marriage.
Speaking at his inauguration he said: "Together, we are committing to do all we can for the city we love. Together, we can move our great city forward."
Mr Walsh is Boston's first Irish mayor in 20 years.
