No arrests have been made, but authorities are scanning mobile phone towers in an attempt to track the source of the bomb.
US authorities are still investigating the motive behind the Boston marathon bombings.
The FBI are currently scanning phone towers in the hope of finding the corresponding phone number and narrowing down the suspect pool, although no arrests have yet been made.
In another address, US President Barack Obama said: “”We’ll take time to follow every lead and determine what happened. we will find whoever harmed our citizens and we will bring them to justice.”
The FBI are currently examining amateur and professional footage to determine the origin of the bomb and are appealing to the public for any images they may have. No suspects have been identified.
Experts have said that the white coloured smoke seen at the explosion site will help indicate specifically what type of bomb was used in the blasts.
The internet has been set alight by footage of a man walking across the roof of a nearby building just after the blast, but authorities have said that it is “just one of the 2,000 leads” they are currently pursuing.
