Father charged as three daughters found with their throats slit
A father has been charged with murder after the bodies of his three young daughters were found in their beds with their throats slit.
Aaron Schaffhausen (34) was brought before St Croix County Court in Wisconsin, US, yesterday charged with the brutal triple killing.
The girls -- Amara (11), Sophie (8) and Cecilia (5) -- died from "sharp force injuries" to their necks, according to a post-mortem.
After the alleged murders, he phoned his ex-wife Jessica and said: "You can [come] home now because I killed the kids."
"Their throats were slit," said District Attorney Eric Johnson. "I have been a prosecutor for 30 years and this is the worst case I've seen."
Police were called to the girls' house in River Falls, Wisconsin, after Jessica Schaffhausen -- Mr Schaffhausen's ex-wife -- alerted them after getting the chilling phone call.
Earlier in the day, Mr Schaffhausen had contacted Ms Schaffhausen and asked if he could visit her house to spend some time with his daughters.
She was not home at the time, but agreed to allow the visit.
Mr Schaffhausen allegedly arrived at the house, relieved the girls' babysitter, and then later rang his ex-wife to say he had killed their daughters.
