Exchange of sexually explicit emails exposed former general's under-the-cover operations

THE emails exchanged between former General David Petraeus and Paula Broadwell were described as containing sexually explicit messages, one referring to manoeuvres under Mr Petraeus's desk.

According to reports, in one email Ms Broadwell addresses Gen Petraeus as "peaches" and another refers to "sex under the desk".

In researching her book, 'All in: the education of General Petraeus', Ms Broadwell is said to have visited the General six times in Afghanistan.

According to her website, www.paulabroadwell.com -- which has since been taken down -- in 2010, she "was embedded with the general and his soldiers on the front lines of Afghanistan".

During an appearance on Comedy Central's 'The Daily Show', Ms Broadwell said she had interviewed Gen Petraeus while the two went running.

"I thought I'd test him, but he was going to test me," Ms Broadwell told host Jon Stewart. "It ended up being a test for the both of us."
