Controversy as Bieber's mum backs pro-life film
HE might be one of the biggest stars on the planet but Justin Bieber's mother's strong feelings on abortion are threatening to cause controversy.
Pattie Mallette is backing a new anti-abortion movie, which may cloud her son's transition from child to adult star.
Ms Mallette (37) is an executive producer in 'Crescendo', which tells the story of an 18th-Century pregnant woman and has an anti-abortion message.
The film will be shown in about 1,000 venues across the world over the next year.
Although she shies away from interviews, Ms Mallette is said to have recorded a short message for the film to be shown at screenings and will appear at certain events.
Pictures of Ms Mallette and her son have been posted on the website and she refers to her son's megastardom in a message.
"I'm the mother of Justin Bieber. We both know first hand the importance of the work being done at pregnancy centres across the country," she said.
In the past, Ms Mallette has written of her struggles when she was 17 and discovered she was pregnant with Justin, pictured.
In her memoir, 'Nowhere But Up: The Story of Justin Bieber's Mom', she wrote of being pressured to have an abortion.
"I knew I had to do what it took, I just couldn't abort him."
Ms Mallette has said that 'Crescendo' would help women in a similar situation.
"My hope is to encourage young women all over the world, to let them know that there is a place to go, people who will take care of you, and a safe home to live in if you are pregnant and think you have nowhere else to turn," she said.
