Cancer treatment takes its toll on frail actor Douglas
Hollywood star Michael Douglas cut a frail and gaunt looking figure as he strolled through New York last week, though the actor has remained upbeat throughout his battle with throat cancer.
But his illness and the subsequent treatment have clearly taken a toll.
Looking fragile, the 66-year-old actor accompanied daughter Carys, 7, to school.
Just three weeks ago, his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, cut short her trip to Britain and announced she was pulling out of a film in order to look after her husband.
It prompted speculation that his health had worsened after she initially claimed that she intended to remain in Wales to watch the Ryder Cup at the start of October.
Zeta Jones, 41, has put her career on hold while Douglas recovers. She had been due to play Vivien Leigh in the film My Week With Marilyn alongside Kenneth Branagh and Michelle Williams -- a part she was said to be eager to take.
However, she has now turned down the role because she does not want to be away from Douglas for an extended period.
Friends of the star have said that despite his frail appearance, the A-lister is responding well to treatment.
